The Village of Massapequa Park provides a wealth of recreational and leisure opportunities for both residents and visitors. The community currently maintains three parks: Brady Park, Colleran Park and Mansfield Park. Each park provides recreational facilities such as picnic areas, basketball courts, horseshoe courts, etc. Massapequa State Park provides camping, hiking and picnic areas. For the golf enthusiasts, the Peninsula Golf Club offers 18 holes of championship golf. In addition, there are several recreational opportunities around Long Island including other golf courses, beaches and attractions. In addition, there are waterfront parks in surrounding communities - such as John J. Burns Park to the south and John Caples Memorial Park.
There are many shopping centers in and around the Massapequa Park community. The shopping centers in the area will take care of your everyday needs. For a larger mall experience, the Sunrise Mall located on the Sunrise Highway has more than 160 retail stores. The history of the Village dates back to the 1600s when Dutch settlers arrived on Long Island. In 1927, the real estate firm of Brady, Cryan & Colleran placed large ads in the New York City newspapers for free special train rides to the Massapequa area. These special train rides brought potential buyers for both home sites and business sites. This in turn led to the development of a community of graceful homes. The modern day history of Massapequa Park began with its incorporation as a village in 1931. The community then experienced a construction boom in the 1950s and 1960s that brought a wave of young families to the area. Massapequa Park continues to look to the future as a modern community while maintaining its strong ties to the past. The Village has something for everyone - an abundance of recreational activities, charming neighborhoods and an overall excellent quality of life. |
